What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

3 reasons to book
  • Exceptionally helpful staff — The team receives consistently high praise for going out of their way to assist guests, from tracking lost luggage to giving local dining tips.
  • Central location for sightseeing — The hotel sits within a short walk of the Colosseum, Termini station, and Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, making it easy to cover Rome's main attractions on foot.
  • Clean and comfortable rooms — Despite compact dimensions, the rooms are kept spotless and come with air conditioning, heating, and a mini-bar – plus parquet floors in some.

Worth weighing

4 to weigh
  • Limited on-site facilities — The hotel scores lowest in the ‘Facilities’ category (6.6) – there is no fitness centre, pool, or restaurant beyond the breakfast service, and the leisure/TV room is modest.
  • Compact room sizes — Some guests note the rooms are small, and the Standard Single room offers only a single bed – though the Triple and Quadruple rooms provide more space for groups.
  • Restrictive check-in window — Check-in is only possible between 14:00 and 23:00, which may be inconvenient for early arrivals or late-night flights (no 24-hour reception).
  • Value below area average — With a rating of 8.1 and a value score of 7.7, the hotel sits below the average for Rome (8.7), suggesting that for the price (from £175), the offering is modest compared to nearby options.

“The location is fantastic – just minutes from the main sights. The staff are friendly and keep everything clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good and the small fridge in the room is a nice extra.”

8.1Verified guest

“Modern, updated rooms with a balcony. There’s a good range of facilities: an electric kettle, a mini-fridge-bar, and climate control.”

“We would highly recommend Hotel Verona. The room was clean and larger than we expected given what we’d heard about European room sizes. The location was perfect – plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance, the Colosseum is a 5–10 minute walk, and Trevi station is equally close. There’s also a taxi stand about 3 minutes away. Besides the location and room size, we’d return for the staff – they went out of their way to help us track a lost suitcase. Friendly, polite, and very helpful. No negatives.”

“We had a very comfortable stay in June. The staff were very friendly, the rooms exceptionally clean, and the breakfast buffet varied and filling. The location was good – close to but not too close to the main train/metro station. I’d highly recommend it to friends and family.”

“The room was very clean and nice – nothing luxurious, but exactly what we needed. Air conditioning was very welcome. The staff were nice and friendly. Breakfast was good, similar to what you get in most Italian hotels. Location was very good – walking distance from Termini station, where you can catch buses to most of Rome, and very close to the underground. You can easily walk to the Colosseum and, with a bit more stamina, to the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. I would recommend this hotel.”
